Michael Seymour, Independent Non-executive Director

Michael Seymour, the founder of Aurelian, is a geologist with over forty years of experience in the oil industry starting with the Burmah Oil Company, Conoco-Philips and Kerr-McGee. In 1984, he founded Teredo Oils which developed into the listed Teredo Petroleum. After its acquisition by Cairn Energy in 1993, he founded Medusa Oil and spent the next five years building up an exploration portfolio in Central Europe which was acquired by Ramco in 1996. After five years as exploration director of Ramco, and following a change in their strategy, he established Aurelian in 2002 to acquire some of Ramco’s Polish, Romanian and Bulgarian assets which now constitute a significant proportion of the current Aurelian portfolio. He served as Managing Director until the appointment of Rowen Bainbridge as Chief Executive Officer in July 2009. He then took on the role of Exploration Director and President. In March 2010, he passed on responsibility for the exploration department to Chris Brown, he is now a Non-executive Director and acts as adviser on governmental and partner relations.
 
He holds a degree from Cambridge in Geography and is a former chairman of the Petroleum Exploration Society of Great Britain.
