Our operations

Our strategy
Aurelian’s focus remains on re-emerging Central Europe, one of the oldest and most prolific oil provinces in the world. Almost untouched by the technology of the last thirty years developed elsewhere, new and potentially large reserves can be expected to be found within countries which lie in the EU with its stability of title, its close access to markets and its attractive fiscal terms for production.

Delivering on our strategy
Aurelian has developed a balance of projects extending from gas production in Romania, the appraisal/development of the significant Siekierki tight gas accumulation in Poland and important exploration projects in all its areas. The year 2008 saw two additional gas discoveries made adjacent to our Bilca facilities in Romania, as wells as a more significant discovery at Lilieci, our first well in the Bacau block further south. Most importantly too, 3-D seismic has been acquired over Siekierki and also in Bulgaria. The latter is still with processing but the new data over Siekierki has substantially increased the geographical size of the structure and therefore the amount of gas that can ultimately be produced.

2009 will also be an active year with the drilling of our first horizontal appraisal of Siekierki and also of our exciting Voitinel exploration well in Romania.

Areas of operation
Aurelian’s operations span the Polish Central Lowlands sector of the Permian Zechstein/Rotliegendes basin to the north, the Polish, Slovakian and Romanian Carpathians in the middle and the Bulgarian Kamchya Depression in the south. The Carpathians, in particular, with its historically huge oil production from very shallow fields, offers strong potential for large new discoveries as seismic for the first time unlocks deeper prospects.
